Chimney Sweep and Inspection

The Process of Sweeping Your Chimney

• Refrain from building a fire in your fireplace or wood stove for at least 24 hours. This allows it to cool before the appointment.
• Upon arrival, the technician will secure the work area to protect it from ash, soot and dust. Furniture will be moved if necessary.
• To protect your floor, a drop cloth will be placed on the floor in front of the fireplace or wood stove. If neccessary, we will lay rug runners from the front door to the fireplace.
• We use a professional vacuum to control ash and soot. We usually clean from the inside of your home using a brush fitted to the interior of your flue attached to a flexible rod system. All of the loosened soot and creosote will be contained and none will escape into your air or onto your furnishings. We remove the loosened soot and creosote from the system with a vacuum or shovel.
• Upon completion, you will see no soot or ash, and no indication that anyone has been inside your house working on your chimney.
• Expect to receive a report on the condition of your fireplace and chimney system. If the technician noted any damage or indication that your system needs repair before use, he will explain this to you.

Chimney Sweep & Inspection

As CSIA Certified Chimney Sweeps, we clean and inspect wood burning chimneys using advanced knowledge and equipment. We look for any issues that could lead to fire or smoke in your home and make recommendations that will ensure your system keeps your home and family safe and warm in the cold months.

In addition to sweeping your chimney, we offer two levels of inspection. A Level I inspection is recommended annually and conducted during a routine chimney sweep. During a Level I inspection, the technician will examine all readily accessible areas of the chimney interior and exterior along with all accessible portions of the appliance and chimney connecter, if applicable.

A Level II inspection is recommended when a new system is installed or an old unit is removed or after an event likely to cause damage, for example a chimney fire. A Level II inspection is also recommended during a real estate sale or transfer. During a Level II inspection, the technician will perform the same tasks as a Level I inspection but will also examine accessible areas of the chimney that pass through crawl spaces and attics. A Level II inspection also includes a video scan of the flue.

When you schedule your appointment, be sure to indicate which Level of inspection you are requesting. An annual sweep & inspection is recommended. Once we have completed the job, be sure to schedule your next appointment for the following summer to avoid our busy Autumn/Winter season and to ensure your system is ready to use during that first cold snap of the year.
