Masonry Chimney Repairs and Chimney Leak Repairs

Masonry Chimney Crown Repair

Your chimney withstands constant exposure to the elements. Over time, masonry chimney crowns deteriorate and crack, which allows water to penetrate your home and can potentially cause damage to the structure.

We repair chimney crowns with a semi-permeable moisture barrier to keep your home dry.

The homeowner had noticed a moldy smell permeating from the chimney. We determined the chimney had sustained moisture damage. We applied a waterproofing agent to the brick exterior and repaired the chimney crown.

Chase Top Replacement

Atop the chase of a factory-built chimney is a metal top. Like traditional masonry chimneys, the chase top withstands constant exposure to the elements. Often the metal chase top will rust, causing stains to the side of the chase and water penetration into your home. Improperly installed chimney caps can also cause holes in the chase top, allowing for leaks to occur. We've seen a lot of chase tops that are constructed of a flat sheet metal, allowing water to pool on top, hastening the process of corrosion. If you notice staining or leaking related to your factory-built chimney, the cause may be your chase top.

All chase tops we install are made of galvanized steel with a convex shape to allow water to shed, rather than pool on the top. We brace each top to ensure it maintains this convex shape. Additionally, our chase tops have a 2" - 3" drip edge around the band so the water is diverted away from the siding. We custom fit each chase top we install and offer a free service call to measure.

Chase Top Replacement Starting at $575

Do You Have Water Damage?

Ironically, water can cause more damage to a masonry chimney than fire.

Water penetration can cause interior and exterior damage to your home and masonry chimney including:

• Rusted damper assembly
• Deteriorated metal or masonry firebox
• Rotting adjacent wood and ruined wall coverings
• Water stained walls and ceiling
• Clogged clean out area
• Stained chimney exterior
• Decayed exterior mortar
• Cracked flue lining system
• Collapsed hearth support
• Chimney settlement
• Musty smell or "campfire" odor

If you notice any of these symptoms, you may have moisture damage relating to your chimney.
